We spend a good chunk of our lives at work every day, but much of life happens outside of work. After pulling wire all day, how much energy do you have to chase kids around or participate in your hobbies? What if a few simple tips could make your next job easier, so you have more energy for the things that matter most? Learn how these Southwire solutions can save you time and energy on your next project.
1. PLAN WIRE PULLS IN ADVANCE WITH THE SOUTHWIRE SIMPULL CALCULATOR
Wire pulling can be a lot of work, so it is important to do it safely and efficiently. The Southwire SIMpull calculator allows you to plan pulls in advance so you can build conduit runs in the most efficient way possible. Using the calculator also allows you to determine the best equipment for the job. For example, you don’t need to manually pull wire when a tugger can do the work for you. The calculator can size the tuggers you need specific to your application.
The SIMpull calculator is free to use online or download as a desktop or mobile app. There are separate calculators for voltage drop , conduit fill, and labor cost savings. Note that the SIMpull calculator is designed to be used with Southwire SIMpull wire, but adjustments can be made to work for other types of wire. If you do not know how to use the calculator at first, Van Meter’s wire experts can work with you to calculate the most efficient pull.
2. SAVE TIME AND LABOR WITH SOUTHWIRE'S FACTORY INSTALLED PULLING HEADS
Set the knife down and say goodbye to stripping wire to create your own pulling heads. Southwire offers factory-installed pulling heads, so you can simply pull rope in, hook on and go. Installing pulling heads in the field can mean several people are waiting around for one person to create one head. Having the pulling heads already installed frees you and your team up to get more done in a shorter amount of time.
Southwire pulling heads also offer peace of mind. Everyone who installs pulling heads at Van Meter is factory trained and certified by Southwire. We warranty our pulling heads, so if a Southwire pulling head fails, Southwire will pay you for the replacement wire and the labor of pulling the wire out and back in
3. SAVE TIME AND ENERGY PULLING WIRE WITH THE XD1 WIRE PULLER
Once you calculate the continuous pulling tension of your wire pull with the SIMpull calculator, what are you going to use to pull it? Do not waste time and energy setting up a full-blown tugger for lighter runs. Southwire’s XD1 is lightweight and portable. It can pull up to 600 pounds continuously and up to 1,000 at its peak. You can even pull light feeder runs with just an 18-volt drill and the XD1.
The XD1 can also assist on bigger pulls, like heavy, medium voltage wire. Instead of having a worker wear their shoulders out pulling in rope for an hour, you can set up a drill and use the XD1 to pull in rope without any effort.
Getting Started with Van Meter
Pulling wire can be hard work, but it does not have zap your energy for the things that matter most. Before your next wire pull, set up a time to speak with one of our Southwire experts and calculate the most efficient way to get the job done.
