Powering Those Who Power Our World

This is an exciting time to be working in the electrical distribution industry. While some people may not know exactly what our industry does, I simplify it by saying, “We help electrify and power our world.” Now that’s exciting!
And then with a smile I share that together with our partners we:
- Ensure the hospital operating room stays running during a storm’s power outage.
- Provide products and services that automate the manufacturing processes of your favorite foods and drinks.
- Power data centers that store your digital phone and gaming data.
- Help build smart cities.
- Light up educational, entertainment and sporting facilities.
- And so much more!
We play a critical role in the continuity and economic vitality of the communities where we work and live through the partnerships with our suppliers and our customers.
UNDERSTANDING CUSTOMER NEEDS
Developing a true appreciation for the important work our customers do starts with taking the time to learn about the industries they operate in and challenges they face and developing meaningful relationships with people in all parts of their organizations.
- At the executive level, what are their goals for the next 3-5 years, and how can we help them get there?
- At the account management level, what training or services can we provide in addition to delivering parts?
- At the procurement level, how will the ways they order materials change, and how can we enhance our order management and delivery?
- At the jobsite level, what are additional services and solutions we can provide so that our customers can be more effective and efficient?
When we get a holistic view of our customers’ needs, we can add value that has real impact and helps to power their progress.
PROVIDING SERVICES & SOLUTIONS
The services and solutions that we offer at Van Meter have come about based on our customers’ feedback as well as our desire to evolve and continue to add more value.
We are a Rockwell Automation authorized service provider with services like drives startups, installed base evaluations and network assessments. Our ability to be more proactive and consultative with the state of their plant floor supplements the knowledge and expertise of our customers’ resources.
We have a drive-thru at many of our locations because our contractor customers told us that time is their greatest need. Instead of having to get out of the truck, come inside to order and wait for service - - they can order ahead, drive through the warehouse, have their materials loaded and be on their way.
We deploy people on customer jobsites to help them manage orders and materials. Our team receives products in and manages the logistics of materials onsite to help our customers be more efficient and effective on the job.
To continue to support our suppliers’ and customers’ growth, we must continue to find ways to add more value. More than parts, we have to be their partner.
EMPOWERING OUR PEOPLE THROUGH PURPOSE
As employee-owners, we are all empowered to do what it takes to serve our partners and create lasting value. This starts with our people truly understanding how essential and important the work our customers do is and then knowing they have real responsibility to help make that work possible.
People are purpose driven. Van Meter is purpose driven. Working for our cause to deliver on the expectations and outcomes that make our customers more successful is rewarding. It’s more than punching in and out each day - - it’s fulfilling our sense of purpose.
Whether it’s stepping away from dinner at night to talk a customer through starting up a drive or one of our salespeople asking his wife to run an urgent delivery when there’s not an emergency cab service available. Or maybe it’s simply a delivery driver packing a cooler full of water for customers on a hot summer day (All true stories!).
Empowered people that have strong relationships with our customers and understand the purpose behind the business that they need to deliver on are motivated to go above and beyond.
DELIVERING ON OUR COMMITMENT
Understanding customer needs, providing solutions and services, and empowering our people through purpose, are all important factors in our organization’s ability to deliver on our commitment of creating lasting value.
What we ‘get to do’ in electrical distribution is super exciting. We touch many different industries and work with people who are progressing and changing the world. If you are interested in a career in electrical distribution at Van Meter, you too can help power the future of our communities.
